Cupcakes and elephants

After a very very very long hiatus I am going to attempt to revitalise this blog! It will now include posts about cooking, sewing and other adventures. So, welcome back!

Last weekend was my beautiful niece's 1st birthday! I was at a bit of a loss of what to give her, so I thought about what I childhood gifts I cherished most. I still have a lot of soft toys that were given to me when I was younger so that's what I decided to make and give as a gift.

A few years ago I went to Europe in the depths of winter and to keep warm I bought these gorgeous green knit long sleep tops from Esprit, but haven't worn them since the trip. I didn't really want to donate them because I loved the fabric so I used it to make a little elephant for Rose.

I simply drew a rough elephant shape and then cut it out of the fabric allowing for a cm hem. The ears are the cuffs of the sleeve, they curled up as the fabric stretched while I was sewing and I absolutely adore how it turned out. I'm quite proud of myself seeing as though I have only attempted sewing a handful of things.

I also made some yummy cupcakes for the party. The pink iced cupcakes were just a simple batter with strawberry essense added, the chocolate cupcakes used this recipe and the pink/purple cupcakes used this recipe. They went down a treat!
